Fitness Assessment 02nd July Herbert Park

Your next FREE Fitness Assessment will take place this Saturday July 02nd in Herbert Park!

It will take place at 10.30am and we meet at the entrance beside the childrens playground and soccer pitches. Click here for map view. There will be a regular class available as an option in Herbert if you're not doing the Fitness Assessment.

This is a great opportunity for all our new Bootcampers to get their first Fitness Assessment to give you an idea of where you're "at" in terms of your fitness levels and abilities.

For those who have done one before it's great way for you to follow up on your last Fitness Assessment!

We will then upload your results to your Personal Profile and then when you do your next Fitness Assessment you can see where you've improved and what you'd like to work on!

How it works:

For a full breakdown of what's involved, averages for all exercises and how the results are calculated click here.

Let us know you'll be coming:

To book in for your Free Fitness Assessment, just log in to your profile, click "Book & View my Events" and select the Fitness Assessment option from the drop down menu. Simple as that!

It is free for all fully registered Members and Loyalty Members. If you are using the Book of 12 Vouchers, please book in online and present a Voucher prior to the class in order to participate.

It's great fun and you still get a great work out!

We rotate our Fitness Assessments between Bushy Park, Phoenix Park & Herbert Park once a month to keep it fair for all our Members to get to one.

And the Winner is...

And the best news is we will also have a Leader Board for the best performance and a runner up! We will split this into eight categories; Male and Female into different age groups: 18-24, 25-30, 31-35, 36+.

All your results will remain private, except those on the Leader Board, where only names will be displayed, and not results.

PS: All our other Saturday classes go ahead as normal.

We hope to see you all there!

Cheers,

Bootcamp Hike, Sunday 15th May

Hike this Sunday, 15th May.

We are heading down to the beautiful Lough Dan in Wicklow this Sunday for a bit of fresh air and endorphins :)) mmmm breathe in the goodness!

The Meeting Point is at 10am at the Roundwood Inn, Roundwood, we will carpool from here. Start point is 10-15mins away by car. Directions to get to Roundwood are here. If you get lost contact number is 085 7303865.

We will head up Scar Hill overlooking Lough Dan and continue on a loop back to Old Bridge. It will take roughly 2 and a half hours and is suitable to all fitness levels. If you have never been on a bootcamp hike is a great one to start with and a great way to start off your Sunday.

After the hike is finished you could take in the scenary of Wicklow or enjoy a nice bowl of soup in Roundwood.

All you need to do to let us know you are coming is book in through your profile.

What you will need:

  1. First you need to book in to go to the hike (just so we have a good idea of numbers). Log in and click the Menu Option: “Book & View my Bootcamp Events”, click on the drop down Menu and select the Bootcamp Hike. That’s it, simple as that!
  2. Waterproof hiking boots. Runners are not the best thing to wear...they don't provide sufficient support for your ankles and your feet may get wet!
  3. Do not wear Jeans...Combats are great or any appropriate training bottoms. Avoid Cotton.
  4. Bring a spare pair of socks just in case!
  5. Wear a few light layers. That way you can remove a layer or two if you're too hot or add one if you're too cold!
  6. It will be chilly so make sure to have hats, gloves, neck warmers and all the usual cold weather gear.
  7. Bring along a tasty and nutritious  packed lunch with a hot drink (always an amazing reward when you take a break!) Can't beat a flask of tea or soup!
  8. And a Backpack for all your bits!
  9. Be ready for any weather waterproof jacket and pants if you have them just in case
  10. Change of clothes in the car is great in case it rains.

(And maybe a Camera too if you're fond of taking the odd picture!)

__________________________________________________________

Please be punctual. If you are not there on time you could miss us! If you need a lift...let us know and we can send out an email to others going and perhaps arrange to share cars etc..

Hope to see you there,

Cheers

Lorraine & The Bootcamp team.

Urban Trail Series

Urban Trail Series, February 5th, March 12th, 9th April

Recommended Fitness Level: (Beginners, Intermediate & Advanced)

The Urban Trail Series is the first set of races, which will take place in urban parks around Dublin(They already had one in December in St Annes Park which they plan to repeat in April). Trail running occurs exclusively on grass trails, forest trails, fire roads and fields. They have created some gnarly, fun, unique and mysterious trail series all on your doorstep!

You could get your second 5k or 10k under your belt with this one! Do one, two or all three in the series it's a great way to rediscover the park in Dublin, go on you  know you want to! Its €15 per race or €42 for all three races!

Tymon Park February 5th

This just sounds too cool... Tymon Park straddles the M50 between Knocklyon and Tallaght. This race will take you all around the park, crossing the M50 via footbridge twice, ascending the two look-out points with views of Dublin city and the Dublin Mountains and will take you through some dense wood. This race is a bag of tricks with consistent flats and sharp inclines and declines, it is constantly changing in view and terrain as you will go from open expanses to dense woods with gnarly underfoot conditions.

Marlay Park March 12th

Marlay is well known to Bootcampers who have trained there in the summer now’s your chance to run those trails! The off-road bits in Marlay have rarely been exposed to competition. This is a very unique and imaginative race in this popular venue which will be relatively flat, offering the chance for the speedsters to ramp up their pace and for newbies to not be afraid of sharp inclines!

St Annes Park April 9th

For all those missing the lovely surroundings of St Annes you can head down and visit it with this run! St Annes park in Clontarf/Raheny is a hidden gem when it comes to trail running. The park is sandwiched between Raheny and the Howth Road and provides some of the best parktrails in Dublin amongst curious architecture and mysterious gardens.

This is an interesting route through some fine oak, ash and chestnut forest. The trails weave their way through historical arches, past disused clocktowers, bandstands and old walls!

FAQ's

Can I go alone? Yes of course, this is the ideal event for you to come on solo.. you'll have hours of walking to chat to some other Bootcampers

Who is it for? It's for Bootcampers (current and ex members)

Where will we be walking? We will be taking in some of the new Dublin Way and Wicklow Way route, that will give us amazing night skies of the city.

Where will we meet? We will be emailing everyone the exact meeting point at the start of Jan, but it will be a bus, luas or DART ride from city centre, so no need for cars.

How will I get home from Johnnie Foxes? We will be putting on a bus that will bring everyone back to city centre after closing time (approximately 12:30)

What do I need to wear? You will need hiking boots of some sort, combats of walking trousers (not jeans), Head torch (you wont be able to see without one!), waterproofs for the legs, a few thin layers for the top (ideally a baselayer if you have one), and a waterproof jacket. Gloves, hat and a spare top and socks are a must for the bag! If you have gators, bring them too.

Can I eat after the walk? Yes, we have arranged some grub for everyone in Johnny Foxes for when we arrive, with vegetarian options.

How do I pay for it? Simply arrange to give it to your team rep at class in an envelope with your name on it, cash or cheque, or you can drop it into the office in 17 Upper Pembroke street. Call us on 01 2343797 for directions.

How will we see in the dark? Everyone will be emailed a kit list of what to wear and bring on the walk, including a night light. This list will be mandatory for the safety of all participants coming along.

I have never hiked before, is that ok? Yes it is, as long as you have a basic level of fitness, and can manage a 1 hour walk at a fast pace, no probs, then you will be fine! You will get an email of a checklist of things that you need to have for the hike, so just be sure you go through this list and call us if you have an problems.

What if the weather is really bad? Should the weather bring us a really bad spell of dangerous weather conditions, everyone will be notified of a re-scheduled date or alternative arrangements. This is why it is key that you all book in for this event, so we have a list of all going.

Participants are reminded that hill walking, climbing and rambling are activities that can be dangerous and may result in personal injury or death. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
